Museum of the Future closed until 2027: what to do instead

The Museum of the Future closed in September 2026 and plans to reopen in Q1 2027, no date set. What it means for tickets and passes, and what to do instead.

The Museum of the Future has been closed since the start of September 2026. The museum says it will reopen in the first quarter of 2027, around its fifth anniversary, but it has not named a date or put tickets on sale (checked 30 October 2026). The nearest substitutes in our data are AYA Universe (AED 135 official, from AED 94.50 at Headout), the Dubai Frame (AED 50) and The Green Planet (from AED 109).

What the museum has said about the closure

All of this comes from the museum’s own FAQ unless stated.

  • Closed: it temporarily closed to visitors at the beginning of September 2026. The July 2026 announcement said mid-September, so articles from July give a different date. Gulf News, updated 27 October 2026, gives 1 September.
  • Reopening: the first quarter of 2027, coinciding with the fifth anniversary. The UAE government portal says the museum was inaugurated on 22 February 2022, so the anniversary falls on 22 February 2027. The museum has not tied the reopening to that day, and the first quarter runs to 31 March.
  • Length: the museum calls the closure temporary and says it will last only a few months.
  • What changes: the exterior stays the same. The current exhibitions will not return in their previous form and are replaced by a new narrative, exhibitions and spaces. The National listed the OSS Hope space station simulation and the Amazon rainforest recreation among those being replaced.
  • Tickets: they will be available closer to the reopening. No price has been published, so we list none.
  • Still open: the main exhibitions are shut. The homepage says the online retail store and selected experiences remain open without naming them. The Auditorium takes event bookings, though Level 7 is unavailable.

Do not travel to Sheikh Zayed Road expecting an exhibition. If a specific old exhibit was your reason for going, plan on not seeing it again.

If you hold a Museum of the Future ticket

The FAQ does not mention tickets bought before the closure. The museum’s published ticket terms, last updated February 2022, set the starting position. They say tickets are non-refundable and non-exchangeable, valid only on the date printed, and that no refund or compensation is due if exhibitions or parts of the museum close. The one exception is the optional Protection Fee, which allows a refund only if you ask at least 24 hours before your slot. These terms predate the closure, so read them as the default, not a ruling on it.

  1. Check the date on your ticket. Any date from September 2026 until the reopening cannot be used.
  2. Contact the seller you booked with (Klook, GetYourGuide, Tiqets, Headout or another site). Quote your booking reference and ask for a refund or rebooking in writing, and keep the reply.
  3. Do not buy dated entry yet. The museum says tickets go on sale closer to the reopening, so be wary of any listing that offers dated entry before then.

If you hold a Go City pass

The Museum of the Future was not in Go City’s live Dubai catalogue of 64 attractions when we read it on 30 October 2026. An independent guide, last verified 10 September 2026, says the same of Go City and Turbopass: no pass can currently be redeemed at the museum. Whether it returns when the museum reopens is Go City’s decision, and we found nothing announced.

If the museum was part of why you bought a pass, you have options. Go City passes stay valid for one year to activate, and Go City’s terms allow free cancellation within 90 days of purchase if the pass is not yet activated. Once you activate, the clock runs for 30 days on Explorer and Essentials passes. Rerun your plan in our Go City pass calculator or read whether the pass is worth it. Of the four alternatives below, only the Dubai Frame is on the pass.

AYA Universe: the closest in format

AYA Universe is a walk-through of 12 themed light and sound zones in Wafi City, including a ball pit and an upside-down waterfall. Allow 60 to 90 minutes. The official ticket is AED 135 for every age, and children under 3 are free. Headout and Klook showed AED 94.50 and AED 95 for their lowest dates, while Tiqets and GetYourGuide showed AED 135.

It is open Sunday to Thursday 10:00 to 22:00 and Friday to Saturday 10:00 to midnight, with last entry an hour before closing. The ball pit needs a height of 1 m and socks. The flashing lights, loud sound and dark spaces will not suit everyone. Other tickets are the Discover Pass at AED 225 (AYA plus House of Hype, valid 30 days), a Flex Pass at AED 175 (any day for a week) and a Family Pass at AED 399 for four. The Green Line metro stops at Dubai Healthcare City, a 6-minute walk. See the AYA Universe prices.

Theatre of Digital Art: per-show tickets

The Theatre of Digital Art is a 360-degree projection venue in Souk Madinat Jumeirah, open daily 11:00 to 23:00. On 30 October 2026 its site listed scheduled events only, not a standing daily show. Examples were Gatsby Jazz Night on 1 November at 20:00 from AED 180, and Kids & Classics: Alice in Musical Wonderland on 15 November at 11:00 from AED 170, for ages 3 and over. Two shows were in Russian. Each “from” price is the cheapest seat category. Events change fast, so check the venue’s prices before you plan around a date.

The Dubai Frame is 150 m high and costs AED 50 for adults and AED 20 for children aged 3 to 12. Its Future Dubai gallery is a swirl tunnel with audio and visual effects, and the Sky Deck level has screens that identify landmarks. It is a short visit of about an hour and open 08:00 to 21:00. It is the only one of these four that Go City covers. Our Dubai Frame ticket guide has the VAT detail, the sunset timing and the kids’ rules. For a higher view, see Dubai observation decks compared.

The Green Planet: indoors, with child pricing

The Green Planet is an indoor tropical rainforest bio-dome with free-roaming birds, sloths and reptiles. It is open daily 10:00 to 18:00. The official Day Pass is AED 155 for ages 11 and over and AED 135 for ages 2 to 10, with under 2 free, VAT included. Headout showed AED 109, Klook AED 126, GetYourGuide AED 129 and Tiqets AED 154.98. Check the Green Planet prices for the full list.
